The Christmas party was held on Saturday December 17 at the facilities of the Francisco Bencosme Social Center. The children sponsored by the foundation Marela and children from the Moca community enjoyed all the activities: face painting, food, Santa and received gifts from the foundation. Around 75 people attended.
We successfully completed the workshop on menstrual health in which approximately 100 girls and young people from the community of Higuerito and Juan Lopez of Moca participated. It was a practical and interactive workshop in which we could all learn about the stigma of menstruation. A girl who menstruates, is a healthy woman.
The Marela Children’s Foundation joined Forces with the Hermanos Jaquez Foundation in the Dominican Republic to assist underprivileged families located in Santo Domingo who were greatly affected by Covid-19.
Covid-19 posted significant challenges to the vulnerable community of Juan Lopez, including health crisis and the lost of millions of lives. Due to this crisis, Marela Foundation was unable to send any medications to the clinics in the Dominican Republic and elected to find other ways to help the Juan Lopez community.
In July of 2020, the Foundation realized an educational seminar with the purpose of inform vulnerable families about the safety measures against covid infection. Doctors volunteer to test people who presented some symptoms and the whole community benefited from the event.
In November of 2018 The Marela Children’s Foundation carried out it’s first Fundraising event with the objective to raise funds to start working on the renovation of the second health care center. The event was a complete success and this enabled the new renovation project of The Higuerito Polyclinic.
